AIZAWL, May 9: Mizoram  is now eyeing for coronavirusfree tag after the State’s lone  COVID-19 patient was discharged from hospital today.  The 50-year-old Baptist  pastor, who was admitted to  hospital on March 24, was discharged from the Zoram Medical College (ZMC) at Falkawn  in the afternoon hours.  Outside the hospital, he was  greeted with a ‘Welcome  Home’ banner by his relatives  and church members. The patient was declared negative on  May 1, after four consecutive  tests.

Rev VL Hruaia Khiangte  had returned to Aizawl from Amsterdam on March 16. He  had tested positive for COVID-19 on March 24, becoming  the second positive case in the  North East.  With all samples that were  tested at the ZMC turning out  to be negative, there is no active COVID-19 case in Mizoram.

However, Mizoram  Health Minister R Lalthangliana said the Government was not in a hurry to  declare the State ‘coronavirusfree’ as new cases could be  detected at any period of time.  “We are not in a hurry to  declare our State COVID-19  free because we are still vulnerable and a new case may  be detected any time,” Lalthangliana said.
