In a letter faxed to Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar on August 28, the Mizoram University Students’ Council (MZUSC) had set a deadline of September 5 to appoint a regular VC failing which the students’ council will boycott all academic and non-academic activities. MZUSC said that the Mizoram University has been without regular VC for almost two years and a number of requests had been made to the authorities by the students as well as the teachers’ association for immediate appointment of a regular VC which were unheeded by the Centre. “Our repeated pleas to the Central Government to appoint a regular VC for Mizoram University have fallen on deaf ears.
The Central Government’s indifference towards our needs is an insult not only to the teachers and students of Mizoram, but to the entire people of the State,” said Laltleipuia Hmar, joint secretary of MZUSC.
