Mizoram Institute of Medical Education & Research (MIMER) was established under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme ‘Establishment of new medical colleges by upgrading district/referral hospitals’.
A meeting held on the 9th June 2013 under the chairmanship of Pu Lal Thanzara, Hon’ble Health Minister approved “Mizoram Institute of Medical Education & Research”- MIMER as the name of the medical college.
On 19th Feb. 2014 Dr Vishwas Mehta, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, gave approval for opening of new Medical College at State Referral Hospital Falkawn and a MoU signed between Government of India and Government of Mizoram on the 16th May 2014 with a total project cost of Rs. 189 lakhs.
Application form for establishing Medical College was submitted to MOHFW for the first time for onward submission to MCI on 29th Aug. 2014 for 50 intake. However, as per the MoU signed and the advice of the MoHFW, preparations were made to resubmit the application form for 100 intakes.
A provisional Consent of Affiliation was given by Mizoram University on the 7th January, 2015.
HSCC (India) Limited was accepted as the consultancy agency on the 25th June 2015.
Application Forms was submitted to MOHFW for the second time for 100 intake on 31st Aug. 2015.
Civil Works commenced at SHRF by contracting agency of HSCC (KMV Projects Ltd) on 6th Oct. 2015.
Inspection of SRHF was conducted by Dr. L.A. Singh, Regional Director, MOHFW on 25th Nov. 2015 who reported to MOHFW about the status of the SRH and on-going work.
Application Forms was submitted to MOHFW for the third time for 100 intake on 6th July. 2016.
MCI assessors comprising of Dr. Ujjwal Bhattacharya, Co-ordinator, Dr. B.K. Bezbaruah and Dr. Khursid Alam inspected the proposed medical college on the 5th & 6th January, 2017.
Application Forms was submitted online to MOHFW for the fourth time for 100 intake on 3rd August. 2017 physical copies were submitted on the 5th July, 2017. Inspection of MCI is expected any time from October onwards.
