Mizoram: Mizoram Government signed landmark peace pact with Hmar rebels


In Mizoram, ending nearly three decades of insurgency in Hmar inhabited areas of Mizoram, a landmark peace accord was signed today between Mizoram Government and Manipur-based Hmar People's Convention (Democratic) at State Guest House in Aizawl. The Memorandum of Settlement, which was signed after six rounds of peace negotiations since 2016 envisaged to rename the existing Sinlung Hills Development Council to Sinlung Hills Council by an act of State legislature with more power and autonomy.


The historic agreement was signed by Chief Secretary Arvind Ray on behalf of the Mizoram Government while H Zosangbera, Chairman of HPC (D) signed on behalf of the outfit.

And HPCD Signed Peace Pact On 2nd April 2018With the signing of the historic peace agreement between Mizoram Government and the HPC (D), the state is moving towards restoring lasting peace and normalcy in the region. The peace pact agreed for setting up of Sinlung Hills Council consisting of 14 members to accelerate speedy development and progress in north and north eastern parts of Mizoram. It also agreed for earmarking separate fund for the newly proposed Council, setting up of a Secretariat for the Council and rehabilitation of all HPC (D) cadres hailing from Mizoram. The peace pact also agreed to give due importance to the religious and social practices and respecting the customary laws and procedures of the Hmar community.
