AIZAWL, May 17: Former
Mizoram Chief Minister and
Mizo National Front (MNF)
president Zoramthanga today
filed a criminal complaint
against one Thansanga, a resident
of Chhinga Veng locality
in Aizawl, for accusing him of
sanctioning the “murder” of
Rev Chanchinmawia, who
died under mysterious circumstances
eleven years ago.
Zoramthanga filed the complaint
in the court of first class
judicial magistrate.
Zoramthanga, in his criminal
lawsuit, said that Thansanga
alleged that he (Zoramthanga)
asked him to carry
out assassination on the pastor
by offering him handsome
reward, which he declined.
This allegation was published
in Congress Thlifim, the official
mouthpiece of Congress
party in March, 2018.
“The Congress newsletter
was widely circulated. Besides
that, the allegations were
widely disseminated on social media,” Zoramthanga said.
“I am the president of
MNF, who has been a Chief
Minister for two terms. The
baseless allegations can tarnish
my image and I demand
appropriate action be taken
against Thansanga,” he said in
the complaint.
Zoramthanga also mentioned
that Thansanga was
hitherto unknown to him.
It may be recalled that Rev
Chanchinmawia, who was a
vociferous social and political
critic, was found dead under
mysterious circumstances on
October 1, 2007.
Zoramthanga was the Chief
Minister at that time. The
Congress, then in opposition,
staged a rally against “the
murder of pastor” the next day.
The special investigation
team set up by Mizoram police
found no evidences to
suggest that the pastor was
murdered, and held that he
committed suicide. The CBI,
who later re-investigated
into the death, also upheld the
finding of the SIT.
