AIZAWL, Sept 9: Anti-corruption
watchdog-turned-political-party
PRISM (People’s
Representation for Identity and
Status of Mizoram) has tied up
with hitherto unknown parties
– Mizoram Chhantu Pawl
(MCP) and Operation Mizoram
ahead of Mizoram Assembly
polls due to be held in November-December
this year.
“The three parties decided to
fight the upcoming Assembly
elections together,” PRISM
president Vanlalruata said on
Saturday. He said the agreement
on seat sharing will be
worked out later.
PRISM, which is the only registered
party among the constituents
of the alliance, has already
declared ten candidates who
would contest on party’s symbol diamond, allotted by Election
Commission of India (ECI).
The alliance announced its
three main agendas on Saturday:
solving the long-standing
Assam-Mizoram border dispute,
putting entire Mizoram
back under Sixth Schedule and
driving foreigners out of Mizoram
and stringent enforcement
of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled
Tribes (Prevention of
Atrocities) Act, 1989 to safeguard
the people.
He said when Mizoram was
upgraded to a Union Territory
in 1972, it ceased to be a tribal
area under Sixth Schedule, barring
the three autonomous district
councils of Mara, Lai and
Chakma in the south.
It would be politically and
socially unsafe for the people if
the entire State is not brought
back under the Sixth Schedule.”
Vanlalruata also promised to
give priority to border dispute
between Assam and Mizoram.
“The people of Mizoram cannot
accept the constitutional
boundary declared by Union
Home Ministry and Assam Government
in 1933. We will claim
the original boundary as defined
in Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation
Act 1873,” he said.
He said this boundary was declared
as Lushai territory according
to the Inner Line Reserved
Forest Declaration in 1877. Vanlalruata
said if they form the government,
they will drive out illegal
migrants from the State.
He also said the alliance would
put in efforts to abolish corruption,
establish transparent government,
work for development
of the youths and bring sustainable
development in Mizoram
by exploiting natural resources. - Assam Tribune
