AIZAWL, March 3: It’s not
a common sight to see a ranking official entertaining the
crowd on any occasion.
A junior IPS officer Shasank
Jaiswal, currently serving as SP
of Mamit district in western
Mizoram, literally rocked it
when he enthralled the crowd
with a popular Mizo song during Chapchar Kut festival at the
district headquarters on Friday.
Revellers of the festival
swung to the beats when
Jaiswal beautifully rendered
the 1990s’ hit ‘Di Chambawihpuii’, originally sung by popular Mizo singer C Lalrinmawia, and 2017’s hit ‘Sarah, I
Zunzam A Ni’ making the festival more lively.
Video clip of the IPS officer
rocking the crowd became an
instant hit when it was uploaded in social media.
“We never knew our SP had
such a good voice and could sing
a Mizo song in such perfection,” said a resident of Mamit.
In a society like Mizoram
where many non-locals, especially people from the plains
who are called as ‘Vais’, find it
difficult to mingle with the
crowd, the friendly and downto-earth gesture of the IPS officer may build better relations with the people in the
border district where communal issues occasionally flare up.
Jaiswal was posted as SP of
Mamit district in August 2018,
after he was transferred from
New Delhi.
