AIZAWL, Feb 24: Mizoram
MLA Dr Vanlalthlana has been
conferred with the Aadarsh
Yuva Vidhayak (Ideal Youth
MLA) honour for his outstanding performance in development work and promotion of
parliamentary democracy.
A citation, shawl and trophy
were presented to Dr Vanlalthlana by Jharkhand Assembly Speaker Rabindra Nath
Mahato at the 10th annual national conclave of the Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Indian Students’ Parliament) held at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on
Sunday.
The Ideal Youth MLA
award is conferred by the
Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad
Foundation to young MLAs
from different states and political parties of India. The
idea is to encourage youth
participation in politics by recognising the positive change
these young legislators have
brought to the society.
Karnataka Congress MLA
Sowmya Reddy and Andhra
Pradesh’s Telegu Desam Party MLA Yeluri Sambasiva Rao
were also honoured with the
award.
In his acceptance speech, Dr
Vanlalthlana thanked the people of his constituency for enabling him to receive such a
prestigious award. He dedicated the award to his family and
the people of his constituency
for their endless support that
lifted him to this position.
Dr Vanlalthlana, a 41-yearold teacher by profession, entered politics in 2018 and contested on an independent
ticket supported by the Zoram People’s Movement for
the first time from Aizawl
North-II constituency in the
2018 State Assembly election
and got elected with a huge
margin.
He is still actively engaged
as an assistant professor since
2005 at Pachhunga College
under Mizoram University. He
serves the government by
obtaining his salary from the
college, for which he doesn’t
take the MLA’s remuneration.
Last year, a picture of him carrying a gas cylinder had gone
viral on social media.
