The Governor of Mizoram Pu PS Shreedharan Pillai accompanied by Lady Governor Pi Reetha Sreedharan visited Champhai today. On their arrival at Champhai Helipad at 9:15 AM, a guard of honour was presented to him by 2nd Battalion, Indian Reserve Police in presence of Pu SL Naveen, IAS, Deputy Commissioner Champhai and Pu Rex Zarzoliana, SP Champhai.
Speaking at the welcoming and interaction program organised in his honour at Champhai Circuit House Conference Hall, the Governor expressed his gratitude to have visited Champhai District and thanked for the warmest reception. He urged all the Government Servants and Public representatives to work tirelessly for the welfare of the people, provide basic amenities to them as it is fundamental rights of the people. Mizoram being a peaceful and pleasant State is inhabited by all peace loving and pure hearted people, he added. Also the Governor while speaking about touring and learning different places and people of the State, he expressed his wish and plan to visit every districts of the State in due course of time. 


The Governor stressed the needs to attain full-fledged freedom by eradicating poverty, and providing basic minimum requirements to all citizens, 26 % of the Indian are still deprived of basic minimum requirement, he mentioned. Talking at length about Central Government Policy of developing North Eastern States, the Governor in his speech mentioned that NE states despite contributing a scanty 3.5 % of the total population of the whole Country could get around 10% of the Central Budget. He applauded the mutual co-operation among the Government, NGO’s and Churches for keeping a smooth pace in running the administration and policies. He also encouraged the people to take up new challenges and try to be self-sufficient.

The interaction of Governor with Head of Offices was presided over by Pu SL Naveen, IAS Deputy Commissioner Champhai. He also highlighted and explained various Departmental achievements under his jurisdiction. Pu Rex Zarzoliana, SP Champhai apprised Police Status and recent achievements. The Governor later interacted with Church leaders and NGO's representatives separately. Thereafter, the Governor visited Mazuia Memorial Home, TNT Champhai, addressed the gathering. On his maiden visit to TNT Champhai also known as Mazuia Memorial Home, the Governor cited that Service to mankind is Service to God, gifted alms and bid them good luck for their future endeovours.

The Governor then departed Champhai at the afternoon. Today’s programme was also attended by Head of Offices, Churches leaders, NGO’s representatives and Media fraternities, among others. -DIPR
