Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who is currently in New Delhi on official business, met Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah at his office in Kartavya Bhawan on 12 June 2026 (Friday) and discussed several important issues concerning the development of Mizoram.
The Chief Minister pointed out that under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) Scheme, Mizoram has not been receiving assistance unlike other Northeastern states because it is a peaceful state free from insurgency. He requested that funding under the SRE Scheme also be extended to Mizoram to strengthen government efforts in combating drug trafficking and cybercrime.
The Union Home Minister advised the State Government to submit more project proposals under the PM-DeVINE (Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North Eastern Region) Scheme, a special initiative aimed at the development of the Northeastern region, and assured his support in pursuing them.
The Chief Minister also informed the Home Minister that nearly 40,000 refugees from Manipur, Bangladesh, and Myanmar are currently residing in Mizoram. He stated that the State Government has been making every possible effort to provide humanitarian assistance to them and emphasized the urgent need for support from the Central Government.
In response, the Union Home Minister informed the Chief Minister that the Central Government would provide Rs. 10 Cr worth of rice to the Government of Mizoram for the relief and support of the refugees. - DIPR Mizoram
