MOSCOW, Sept 12: A Russian model has set a new Guinness world record for the longest legs measuring an unparallelled 132 centimetres in length. Ekaterina Lisina, a 29-year-old woman from Russia, also broke the Guinness record for being the tallest female professional model with a height of 6 feet and 8.77 inches. Her left and right legs measure 132.8 cm and 132.2 centimetres respectively. As required by the Guinness World Records guidelines, the measurements were taken by independent professionals – a seamstress and doctor – from the heel to the top of the hip. Lisina said that she was bullied in school for her height and she wanted “to be an inspiration to girls who are not very confident.” Lisina has trouble finding trousers that fit her, and finds it very awkward squeezing into airplane and car seats. With a shoe size of 47, it is also difficult for her to find feminine shoes. However, there are also some benefits to having the longest legs in the world, she said. Her height has also helped her basketball career, and she won a bronze medal playing for Russia in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. – PTI

AIZAWL, Sept 12 : As the indefinite strike spearheaded by Mizoram University Students’ Council (MZUSC) demanding immediate appointment of regular Vice-Chancellor entered the 7 th day today, the students intensified agitation by shutting down some colleges affiliated to the Mizoram University apart from boycotting all academic and non-academic activities at the varsity. MZUSC president Lalnunhlima told reporters that two affiliated colleges, Pachhunga University College (PUC) and T Romana College in Aizawl remained closed on Monday boycotting all academic and non academic activities in protest against the delay in the appointment of regular Vice-Chancellor for the Mizoram University. He said that students held picketing at the college campuses preventing teachers and non-teaching staff from attending their respective offices. All the colleges across the State affiliated to the varsity also extend their support to the agitation launched by the varsity students for immediate appointment of regular V-C, he added. 

The agitating students also burnt a large poster of Union Human Resource Development Minister Prakash Javadekar during protest at the varsity campus on last Friday. The students alleged that the absence of a regular V-C for a long time has not only affected administration but also adversely hit the overall academic functions. Lalnunhlima rued that the university has been without a regular Vice-Chancellor for almost two years, and the students have made repeated appeals to the Centre but to no avail. Terming the Centre’s indifference to the students’ demand as an insult to the student community and the people of Mizoram as a whole, he said the Centre should take an effort for immediate appointment of a regular VC . Various student bodies such as Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Mizo Students’ Union (MSU), Aizawl City College Student Union (ACCSU) and Mizoram University Teachers Union (MIZUTA) also voiced their support for the ongoing agitation.

AIZAWL, Sept 12: No report of any Rohingya Muslim entering Mizoram have been received so far, a senior police officer said today. The officer said strict vigil was being maintained along the State’s 404 km international border with Myanmar and 318 km long border with Bangladesh but there was no report of any Rohingya Muslim entering Mizoram. Law enforcement agencies and intelligence agencies are keeping a close watch on the possibility of Rohingya Muslims entering the State from Myanmar and Bangladesh, the officer informed.

“We have been holding meetings of the stakeholders like the Central paramilitary forces guarding both the Myanmar and Bangladesh borders and the intelligence agencies every two months to take stock of the situation in the border areas,” he said. The, officer however, said that around 170 Arakanese people entered Mizoram from neighbouring Myanmar due to recent clashes between Myanmar Army and the Arakan Liberation Army (ALA) and took shelter in the border areas in south Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district. Makeshift camps were made where the refugees took shelter and the Deputy Commissioner of Lawngtlai District arranged foodstuff for them, he added. – PTI
