With the 4th edition of the
Hero Indian Super
League making it compulsory
for minimum six Indians to be
on the field,
the Indians
will have a big
role to play
when it goes
down to the
wire. With Indian
Football
on a roll it’s hard to take a pick,
but nevertheless, here are the
5 whom I am looking forward
to watching.
1. Gurpreet Singh Sandhu:
He has improved big
time as a Goalkeeper since I
first saw him in the National
Team in 2011. I was then the
Captain and we were preparing
for the AFC Asian Cup
Doha 2011. Post his stint in
Norway he has improved
leaps and bounds on his interception
and reading of the
game. He looks much matured
and with more experience
can go on to be one of
the best Goalkeepers India
has ever produced.
2. Udanta Singh: They call
him ‘flash’ for his speed as
many a connoisseur predicts
him to be the next big star of
Indian Football. But for that
he needs to work more on
his finishing. Till now Udanta
was playing under Sunil
Chhetri’s shadow and this
ISL will be an acid test for
him. There were be eyeballs
on him and it’s up to him to
handle it with poise.
3. Rowllin Borges: He has
been a regular with the National
Team and had an exceptional
year with NEUFC last
season. Borges is a tactically
sound player who can build up
the play and also cover up for
the defence when the opponents
are counter attacking.
He is getting better with experience
but needs to get
sharper.
4. Bikash Jairu: He is a highly
talented winger who has the
pace and can deliver the ball in
the right places. Sharp and incisive,
Jairu has been unlucky
with injuries and his biggest
challenge will be to stay fit.
Playing for Jamshedpur FC, he
is one who can make a difference.
