AIZAWL, Nov 29: President
Ram Nath Kovind arrived here
this afternoon on his maiden visit
to Mizoram after assuming office.
From Lengpui Airport, the President
was flown to Thuampui Helipad,
on the northern part of the
city in an Indian Air Force helicopter,
where he was received by
State Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay Sharma (rtd), Chief Minister Lal
Thanhawla and his Cabinet colleagues,
and top officials.
The citys narrow main road
from Thuampui Helipad to Raj
Bhavan was cleared off vehicles to
allow free movement of the Presidents
convoy.
Later, at Raj Bhavans Durbar
Hall, the President inaugurated a
Housing Complex for Economically
Weaker Section, constructed under
Basic Service to Urban Poor
(BSUP) scheme.
Thereafter, he met the Governor,
Chief Minister and the Council
of Ministers. A cultural programme
was organised for the
President later in the evening.
The President is scheduled to visit
PC Girls School in Aizawl on Thursday
morning, before interacting with
leaders of leading civil society organisations.
At 11 am, he will address
members of the State Assembly.
Meanwhile, PRISM party has alleged
today that the housing complex
for economically weaker section
that the President was made to
inaugurate is yet to be completed.
It is a shame that Mizoram Government
let the President inaugurate
a project which has not been completed.
It is an attempt to cover up its
inefficiency before the Centre,
PRISM said in a statement. -Assam Tribune
