AIZAWL, Dec 12: Prime Minister
Narendra Modi is scheduled
to visit Mizoram on December
16, official sources said today.
In his maiden visit to the
State, the Prime Minister will
formally commission the 60-
MW Tuirial hydro electricity
project during a public rally at
Assam Rifles ground in Aizawl,
the sources added.
State-owned engineering firm
BHEL has constructed both the
first and second unit of the Tuirial
Hydro Electric Project (HEP)
in Mizoram a few months back.
Located at Kolasib district
of Mizoram, the greenfield
project of the North Eastern
Electric Power Corporation
Ltd (NEEPCO) has been set
up on the river Tuirial.
Power generation from Tuirial
HEP will contribute significantly
to the reduction of
greenhouse gas emissions and
contribute towards achieving
a low-carbon development
path for the nation.
Official sources said the
Prime Minister will launch the
project via satellite link from
the venue of the public rally.
A meeting of top officials from
different departments, chaired
by chief secretary Lalmalsawma
was held at Aizawl today to
ensure security and other logistical
arrangements for the visit.
The sources said that the
Prime Minister would land at
Aizawl’s Lengpui Airport on
December 16, from where he
will proceed to Aizawl via helicopter.
Then, the PM will leave
for Shillong the same day.-Assam Tribune
