Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and unveil the plaque to mark dedication to the 60 Mega Watt Tuirial Hydro Electric Power Project at Assam Rifles Ground in Aizawl. With this, Mizoram has become the third power- surplus state in the Northeast after Sikkim and Tripura.

 Inaugurating the Tuirial Hydro Electric Power Project, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that schemes for the benefit of the North Eastern region are gaining momentum and that his government is committed for the holistic development ushering a new era in the North East.

modi visited mizoramThe Prime Minister also said that his government aims not only to make the North Eastern states a power-surplus but to develop a state of art transmission system where the surplus power would be supplied to other power-deficit states of the country. He said that his government is investing close to Rs Ten Thousand Crore in power sector in the North East.
He also said his government is working towards "Transformation through transportation" which will bring unparalleled opportunities for the Northeast for which he said his government has sanctioned 3800 Kms of National Highways with an investment of Rs Thirty Two Thousand Crore.
Modi visited mizoramThe Prime Minister said his government has approved a new centrally-sponsored scheme christened as "North East Infrastructure Development Scheme" to fill the gap in infrastructure, which will be cent per cent funded by the Centre for which Rs 5300 crore has been earmarked under this scheme over the next three years.

The Project, which was cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs during the Prime Minister ship of Atal Behari Vajpayee in 1998 has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1302 crore.

Besides attaining self-sufficiency in electric power, the Tuirial Hydro Project would be benefitted for the state in employment generation, navigation, assured drinking water supply, pisciculture, setting up of local industrial units, wildlife conservation and more importantly, in the field of eco-tourism.
