AIZAWL, March 8: Mizoram
Government and Hmar People’s
Convention (Democratic),
the Hmar ethnic armed
group fighting for autonomy
since 1994, have finally reached
a landmark agreement to put
an end to more than a threedecade
old stalemate on the
Hmar political imbroglio.
The agreement was reached
between the two sides during the
“political level talks” held here
on Thursday.
Speaking to reporters,
Lalrinmawia Ralte, Political
Adviser to Mizoram CM, who
headed the government delegation,
said both sides have unanimously
agreed to sign the Memorandum
of Settlement (MoS)
based on the framework of
agreement made earlier.
He also said the peace accord
between the two sides will be
inked very soon and the “peace
resolution” will be referred by
both sides to the State Government
who will decide on
the date for signing peace accord
and laying down of arms.
Asked about the terms of the
agreement, Ralte said that it cannot
be revealed at this juncture.
HPC(D) spokesperson Lalthalien
exuded happiness for the
“positive outcome” of the peace
parleys that an agreement will
be finally signed after two decades
of arm struggle.
