AIZAWL, April 11: Retired
IAS officer Michael Lalmanzuala
has announced his candidacy
for the Mizoram Assembly
elections due this year-end.
The former Mizoram chief
secretary, who had unsuccessfully
contested from Aizawl
North-I constituency as an independent
in 2008, said he
would contest from the same
constituency, this time too independently.

Lalmanzuala announced his
decision to contest elections on
his Facebook status on Monday,
to be the first to announce
his or her candidacy for the
2018 State Assembly polls.
Known for his outspokenness
and his vociferous criticism
of the existing social and political
system, he said that he
would not beg for the people’s
votes like “all politicians do.”
While confirming his candidacy
over phone Lalmanzuala
said, “If the people want
change, they would vote for
me,” he said.
After his unsuccessful attempt
in Assembly polls, Lalmanzuala
contested from the
lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram
in 2014 on Aam Admi
Party (AAP) ticket, but lost
to CL Ruala of Congress. -Assam Tribune
