Lalmanzuala announced his decision to contest elections on his Facebook status on Monday, to be the first to announce his or her candidacy for the 2018 State Assembly polls. Known for his outspokenness and his vociferous criticism of the existing social and political system, he said that he would not beg for the people’s votes like “all politicians do.” While confirming his candidacy over phone Lalmanzuala said, “If the people want change, they would vote for me,” he said.

After his unsuccessful attempt in Assembly polls, Lalmanzuala contested from the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram in 2014 on Aam Admi Party (AAP) ticket, but lost to CL Ruala of Congress. -Assam Tribune
