AIZAWL, April 11: Mizoram
Governor Lt Gen Nirbhay
Sharma (Rtd) today hailed
the peace accord signed between
Mizoram Government
and Hmar People’s Convention-Democratic
on April 2 last.
“It is with great pride and
happiness that I congratulate
Mizoram Government and
Hmar People’s ConventionDemocratic
on having signed
a peace accord on April 2. With
the stroke of a pen, we have
brought to an end 24 long
years of suffering and insurgency.
The resolve and dedication
shown by all the stakeholders
towards this end must
be commended,” the Governor
said in a message.
He said, after the historic Peace Accord of 1986, Mizoram
has taken the lead yet
again in displaying that peace
is attainable even in politically
vexed and mired situations.
We have continued to showcase
that we are one of the
most peaceful States, if not the
most peaceful, in India.
“With this signing, we now
look forward to a more peaceful
and prosperous Mizoram.
I appeal to all sections of the
society to show absolute sincerity
in making this a longlasting
solution.
I am certain
that the Government and
HPC (D) will remain true to
all our commitments,” the
Governor said.
The 103 cadres of HPC-D
who surrendered following
the peace accord are now
lodged in Central Training Institute
at Sesawng village about
45 km from here, where the
arms laying ceremony will take
place on Friday.
Mizoram Home Minister R
Lalzirliana is scheduled to attend
the laying down of arms
ceremony. Official sources
said 46 arms and hundreds of
rounds of ammunition would
