AIZAWL, July 22: Mizoram’s apex student body Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) on Saturday said that MZP is firm on its determination to construct a rest shed at Zophai on the disputed border between Mizoram and Assam. It also warned of more aggressive steps to resolve the border dispute in case the core committee’s effort turns futile.

MZP president L Ramdinliana Renthlei further expressed grief over Centre and Assam Government’s alleged apathy towards its demand for compensation for the damage caused by Assam police during a border stand-off at Zophai along Assam-Mizoram border in March this year.

Tired of waiting, MZP decided to collect donation from public, including non- tribal residents in the disputed border and all non-tribal companies operating in the State, to compensate the damage during the skirmishes between MZP volunteers and Assam police force. MZP has also appealed the Mizoram Government to compensate the damage, but the government has turned it down citing financial constraints. – Assam Tribune Correspondent
