AIZAWL, April 24: The
Opposition Congress and the
Zoram People’s Movement
(ZPM) today accused the
Mizo National Front (MNF)
Government of flouting rules
by deciding to recruit 946
teachers for primary and
middle schools.
In separate statements,
the two parties alleged that
the Government was trying
to recruit teachers on the
pretext of meeting the perennial problem of teacher
shortage, but which in fact
was primarily meant to favour party workers.
The State Cabinet on
Monday decided to recruit
946 teachers to fill up vacant
posts in primary and middle
schools under the muster
roll in relaxation of column
8(2) of the recruitment rules
in respect of primary school
and middle school teachers
and all the existing office
memoranda pertaining to
engagement of muster roll employees.
The Congress said that
the Cabinet decision has rubbished the promise made by
Education Minister Lalchhandama Ralte that recruitment rules would be strictly followed in the process of
recruitment of teachers under the muster roll. “The
Cabinet decision also contravened the National Council for Teacher Education
(NCTE), which sets Teacher Eligibility Test as mandatory for recruitment of
teacher,” the Congress said
in its statement. Besides, the
applicant should hold a diploma in elementary education or a Bachelor’s degree
in elementary education, the
statement added.
It pointed
out that there are no separate eligibility criteria for
muster roll employees.
The ZPM also said that the
Cabinet decision was a clear
violation of the recruitment
rules for teachers, and was
an attempt to give undue favours to party workers. ~ NEWMAI NEWS
