AIZAWL, June 17: Five Mizoram journalists who were allegedly lathi-charged by Assam police in March last year appeared
before Assam Human Rights
Commission, Barak Valley division today.
The five journalists gave their
statements to the commissioner Dr Anwaruddin Chaudhury,
who asked them to submit available documents at the earliest.
The journalists, Zohmingmawia, news editor, The Aizawl
Post; Joseph Lalnuntluanga, news
reporter, Zonet Cable Network;
C Lalthansangi, news reporter,
AIR Aizawl; R Lalnunmawia,
news editor, Duhlai daily newspaper, Kolasib and H Vanlalnghaka DDK stringer, Kolasib,
were allegedly lathi-charged by
Assam police on March 8 and 10,
2018 while covering altercations
between Assam Police and Mizo
Zirlai Pawl (Mizo Students’ Association) activists over the latter’s attempt to construct a waiting shed on a disputed land along
Assam-Mizoram border.
The
commissioner said he would submit the journalists’ statements
to Assam Government and also
summon police and civil officials
and further submit his findings
to the National Human Rights
