INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY TO BE CELEBRATED ACROSS MIZORAM

Yoga Day 2019 Mizoram
The 5th International Yoga Day will be celebrated across Mizoram on June 21 2019. In capital Aizawl, Assam Rifles, central schools, Field Outreach Bureau and other central departments and organisation will have special programmes to celebrate the Yoga Day. Assam Rifles will organise programmes at different locations in the state.

The United Nations General Assembly had declared June 21st as the International Yoga Day on December 11, 2014. Accordingly the first International Yoga Day Celebration was organized across the world on June 21, 2015.

Acknowledging the positive role and responsibility of media in disseminating the outreach of Yoga in India and abroad, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has instituted the First Antarashtriya Yoga Diwas Media Samman (AYDMS) from this year to mark the contribution of media in spreading the message of Yoga. The Samman to be conferred on Media Houses would be given under different categories.

No official function was held in Christian-majority Mizoram  on the 4th International Yoga Day last year. Church leaders feel that it is "essentially a Hindu religious practice".

The Young Mizo Association and some other student organisations opposed yoga by describing it as a “hidden agenda of Hindu organisations like the Sangh Parivar".
