The Mizoram University today made
hockey star Lalremsiami
Hmar its sports ambassador at
a sports promotion programme here.
Prof KRS Sambasiva Rao,
Vice Chancellor of the Mizoram University, initiated the
move to honour Lalremsiami’s
decision to play even in the face
of her father’s death during a
recent tournament and the victory of the Indian women’s
hockey team in it.
Addressing the felicitation
ceremony held on the occasion, Prof Rao praised Lalremsiami for her determination
and strength amid the personal tragedy. She has set an incredible example for the youths to follow, he added.
Lalremsiami, on her part,
narrated her journey, struggles and the pain of losing her
father in the midst of an international championship. She
also mentioned the training she
and her team-mates underwent, leading to the victory in
Japan.
