AIZAWL, Nov 23: A
meeting chaired by
Mizoram Home Minister
Lalchamliana here today decided to ban sale and bursting of firecrackers and sky
lanterns as well as sale and
possession of toy guns during the upcoming festive
season.
The meeting, attended by
top officials of the state government and leaders of the
Central YMA was held to day at the SAD Conference
Hall, MINECO.
In view of the raging
COVID-19 pandemic, the
committee appealed to the
people of Mizoram to avoid
bursting of firecrackers as
pollution caused by such activities could exacerbate
conditions of COVID-19 patients and people suffering
from other respiratory diseases.
It was decided that special police checkpoints and
mobile patrolling will be revamped. All district magistrates will issue prohibitory
orders and those found disobeying the order will be duly
penalised.
The Local Level
Task Forces set up to combat COVID-19 pandemic
will also be roped in for this
purpose. A visual communication campaign to raise
awareness on the subject
will also be featured by using platforms such as social
media, newspapers, electronic media and public information systems.
